Northeast Corridor Train Strikes Car in Rahway

One man suffered minor injuries, and train traffic is getting back to schedule following the early afternoon incident.

If you experienced some delays this afternoon on your way to or from New York City, it was likely due to a train versus car crash in Rahway.

The incident occurred around noon, according to reports.  The train – which originated in Trenton and was headed for New York – struck the vehicle in Rahway, coming to a stop at New Brunswick Ave.  The victim in the car – an adult male - was taken to University Hospital with minor injuries, according to the NJ.com report.

None of the approximately 900 on the train were injured, and were transferred to another train to continue their journey, according to the report.

It was unclear exactly where the train struck the vehicle or how the vehicle wound up on the tracks in the first place, as the tracks cross over New Brunswick Ave. in Rahway on a bridge, with vehicular traffic passing underneath.

All train traffic was briefly stopped on the Northeast Corridor following the crash; the trains are running again with delays of 10-20 minutes expected along the train line Saturday.
