Overnight Carjacking At Scotch Plains Diner Under Investigation

A man warming up his car in the Scotchwood Diner parking lot reported being assaulted by 2 men and having his car stolen: Police.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — A carjacking was reported in the parking lot of the Scotchwood Diner at 1934 Rt. 22 East in Scotch Plains early Wednesday morning.

At around 12:30 a.m., a 43-year-old man said two white men came up to him and assaulted him while a third man got into his 2001 Toyota Camry, which he had been warming up in the lot, Scotch Plains Police reported.

The two men then ran into a tan-colored vehicle that was parked on the property next door and fled. Both that car and the stolen car drove off on Route 22 East, police reported.

Union County K-9 was brought in for a track but did not find anything.

The victim's car was later found a short time later on Lawrence Avenue in Westfield.

The victim suffered minor lacerations to his hands and face. The Scotch Plains rescue squad responded to treat the victim, who declined transport to the hospital, police reported.
