The first month of school was exciting and busy for Ms. Tayna Tone’s Pre-Kindergarten class. The students had a smooth transition and are easing into their routines. They are all diligent workers.
The class started the school year by becoming superheroes. There are five behaviors necessary for each child to master so they can have a successful year - Eyes Watching, Ears Listening, Hands and Mouth Still, Brains Thinking, and most importantly, Hearts Caring. The students talked about each of the behaviors and created paper superheroes of themselves performing each behavior. The superheroes are posted on the wall as a reminder to the children to always do their best.
The students also completed their first keepsake for their parents. The class decorated the outside of pizza boxes with paint. Inside, they wrote a note to their parents about their favorite part of school. The boxes were presented to their parents at Back to School Night. The box will help hold the various projects the students work on during the year.

The students have also started their weekly Italian, science and music classes. They have learned how to say “hello” and “good-bye,” and are practicing singing “Ring a Round the Rosy” in Italian. They will start learning a Christmas song in Italian to sing at their Christmas concert in December. In science, they cut out and colored paper scientists and, through discussion, discovered that they themselves are scientists. All they need to do is ask questions and then search for the answer. During music, Mrs. Joanne Gurske, the Academy music teacher, introduced the class to various instruments, including the drums, piano, and different wind instruments.
It’s been a very enjoyable first few weeks of school for our young students, and we look forward to seeing them learn and grow!
