Scotch Plains Police Reports

Police activity from June 14 to June 20.

Scotch Plains police received four reports of theft, three reports of criminal mischief, and one report of fraud last week. Officers also arrested four individuals with outstanding warrants.

Monday, June 14:

  • A resident of East Second Street reported being a victim of theft. She stated that an unknown suspect or suspects went onto her property sometime during the day and removed her bicycle from the backyard. The total value of the stolen bike is about $120.
  • A resident of Grand Street reported being a victim of theft. He stated that sometime at night, an unknown suspect or suspects removed a solar light from his property. The light was valued at about $5.

Tuesday, June 15:

  • A resident of Lyde Place reported being a victim of theft. He stated that he shipped his computer via an overnight company in Texas. When the box arrived, he said, it was empty. The value of the computer was about $350.
  • A resident of Tussell Lane reported being a victim of fraud. She stated that she received a call from her loan company advising her to pay-off a loan immediately, and to mail the check to a new address. She called her loan company back and found that no one from her company had called. The victim cancelled the check that she sent.

Wednesday, June 16:

  • A resident of Mountain Avenue reported being a victim of criminal mischief. He stated that sometime during the afternoon, an unknown suspect or suspects smashed the windshield of his vehicle, which was parked in front of the house.

Thursday, June 17:

  • Police arrested Jacquelin Fountain, 24, of Jersey City, for a $99 outstanding warrant issued by the Jersey City court. She was also charged with drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle. Officer Brian Cheney stopped the vehicle she was riding in for a motor vehicle violation on Route 22 and discovered the warrant. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.
  • Police arrested Jarette Sparks, 33, of Jersey City, for a $1,200 outstanding warrant issued by the Elizabeth court. Officer Cheney stopped Sparks for a motor vehicle violation on Route 22 and discovered the warrant. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.

Friday, June 18:

  • Police arrested Leon Walters, 30, of North Plainfield, for a $1,500 outstanding warrant issued by the Scotch Plains court. Officer Dom Luciano stopped Walters for a motor vehicle violation on Park Avenue and discovered the warrant. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • A resident of Jerusalem Road reported being a victim of theft. He stated that sometime during the morning, an unknown suspect or suspects removed scrap metal from his yard. The scrap was valued at about $300.

Saturday, June 19:

  • A resident of Morse Avenue reported being a victim of criminal mischief. He stated that during the evening, an unknown suspect or suspects threw a rock through the upstairs window of his house.
  • Police arrested Marvin Taylor, 25, of Newton, for a $1,000 warrant issued by the Mahwah court. Officer Stan Pearson stopped Taylor for a motor vehicle violation on Terrill Road and discovered the warrant. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Sunday, June 20:

  • A resident of Westfield Avenue reported being a victim of criminal mischief. She stated that sometime late at night, an unknown suspect or suspects smashed the driver's side mirror of her vehicle, which was parked in front of her house.
