In one of the most well-played high school baseball games of this season (or any other season, for that matter), Scotch Plains-Fanwood outlasted upstart Dayton 5-1 in nine innings Sunday in a contest held at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, home of the Minor League team the Somerset Patriots.
Scotch Plains scored a run in the top of the fourth and then Dayton tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth.
Scotch Plains scored four runs in the top of the ninth on six hits after getting only one hit and having only four batters reach base in the first eight innings.

Jordan Bayroff was the winning pitcher for Scotch Plains, improving to 2-0. Paul Flores took the loss for Dayton.
Scotch Plains senior first baseman John Maxwell got his team's first hit, a triple, and scored his team's first run. Then in the ninth with runners on second and third and nobody out, he hit a sacrifice fly to right for the game-winning RBI.
