Tea, Jazz and a Tabletop Competition at Greater Plainfield Event

United Way launches event to raise awareness about vital programs and services offered through its Plainfield partnerships

On Saturday, November 2, 2019, United Way of Greater Union County (UWGUC) will host an afternoon featuring high tea, entertainment and a tabletop competition at the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church in Plainfield, New Jersey from 3-6 p.m.

Local jazz saxophonist, Leesa Brown will perform at the event and there will be a table decoration competition where participants will have the opportunity to display their creative place-setting design talents. “We encourage people to share their artistic abilities in the spirit of this event for a vital cause,” said, Anna Belin Pyles, UWGUC Board Member. In addition, attendees will be served a savory selection of finger sandwiches, delightful scones and an assortment of teas.

As part of Women United, a national and local initiative of women philanthropists united in giving and commitment to United Ways, the event’s committee co-chairs and UWGUC board members Anna Belin Pyles and Geraldine Harvey of Plainfield want to raise awareness about programs and services offered in the greater Plainfield area through funding from United Way of Greater Union County. “We are pleased to bring a delightful event to the residents in the greater Plainfield area and we also want people to understand the importance and need for these programs and why the United Way is the best investment choice in supporting children and families in Union County” said, Geraldine Harvey, UWGUC Board Member.

Honorary Chairpersons of the event are Brenda Anderson, Civic Leader and Former UWGUC Board Member; Reverend Tracey L. Brown, Pastor/Founder, Ruth Fellowship Ministries; Maritza Martinez, Commissioner, Plainfield Advisory Council for Hispanic Affairs and; Elizabeth Urquhart, President, Union County Board of Taxation.

Proceeds from the event will benefit programs and services funded by United Way of Greater Union County. The cost to attend the event is $55 and can be purchased on the United Way website at uwguc.org/hightea or by contacting 908.353.7171 ext. 104. Deadline for ticket purchase is Friday, October 25, 2019.
