Thefts Of Car, License Plate, Packages Reported In Scotch Plains

Four people were also arrested of possession of marijuana or DUI in the township, according to the police blotter.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Multiple thefts were reported in Scotch Plains including a stolen Audi S4, according to the police blotter.

On Feb. 26: Gerrell J. Jones, 21, of Plainfield was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Patrolman Dave Belford and Patrolman Mike Smolinski. Transported to headquarters and processed.

On Feb. 26: Samuel Hanciles, 28, Scotch Plains was arrested and charged possession of marijuana,
lewdness and defiant trespass. Sgt. Brian Hayeck and Lt. Joe Zito observed Hanciles at the 7-11 store located
at 302 Park Ave. urinating on the side of the building. Hanciles had been warned numerous times by management that he was not welcome on the property. Transported to headquarters and processed.

On Feb. 28: Mardoqueo Ciprian, 33, of North Plainfield was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Scotch Plains by Patrolman Rich Sopko. Processed and transported to the Union County Jail.

On March 1: A resident in the 2200 block of Newark Ave. reported a fraud. Victim states someone applied for a credit card in his name and also changed his mailing address with the post office. Under investigation.

On March 1: A resident in the 1100 block of Cushing Road reported a fraud. Someone attempted to open a credit card in the victim’s name. Under investigation.

On March 3: A resident of Village Park Court reported the theft of their blue 2001 Audi S4. Resident parked the vehicle on Front St. and stated it was stolen sometime overnight. Vehicle has been entered stolen. Under investigation.

On March 3: A resident in the 2200 block of Coles Ave. reported the theft of his front license plate off of his work van. The NJ plate has been entered stolen.

On March 4: Daniel N. Turk,, 56 of Colonia was arrested and charged with criminal mischief during a disturbance at the NY/NY Blood Center located at 2279 South Ave. Arrested by Patrolman Charles Tripet.
Transported to headquarters and processed.

On March 5: An employee of the Ashbrook Nursing Home located at 1610 Raritan Road reported the theft of cash from her purse. Under investigation.

On March 5: Melyndasu C. Chang, 28, of Newark was arrested on outstanding warrants out of Scotch Plains and East Orange. Arrested by Patrolman Charles Tripet, processed and released.

On March 6: Andre T. Brown, 25, of Irvington was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Scotch Plains. Arrested by Patrolman Richard Sopko, processed and released.

On March 7: A resident of Mary Beth Ct. reported a fraud. Someone gained access to the victim’s bank information and transferred money to another account. Under investigation.

On March 9: A resident of Elizabeth Avenue reported the theft of packages from her front steps. Theft occurred between March 2 and 3.

On March 9: Due to storm damage, patrol units were dispatched to Westfield Rd. on a reported hazmat incident. A transformer leaked oil onto the street below. Union County Hazmat and the Scotch Plains Fire Department responded and the area was closed to traffic until made safe.

On March 10: Robert J. Comeau, 26, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence during the course of a motor vehicle investigation conducted by Patrolman Luis Pereira. Transported to headquarters and processed.

On March 11: Julio C. Mengha-Dongmo, 22, Plainfield was arrested and charged with driving under the influence during a motor vehicle investigation conducted by Patrolman Jason Everitt. Transported to headquarters and processed.

On March 11: Kaseem Way, 38, of Irvington was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, tampering with evidence and hindering apprehension during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Patrolman Jason Everitt and Patrolman Andrew Gitto. Transported to headquarters and processed.
