Will the NY Giants Go to the Super Bowl?

Area residents are rooting for their favorite team to win Sunday's game and be bound for Super Bowl greatness.

Sunday's NFC Championship Game pits the New York Giants against the San Francisco 49ers in San Francisco and Giants fans are expecting Big Blue to come home with a win.

"I think the Giants have a great chance," said Kevin Taylor who manages special needs programs in Summit. "I wasn't always sure about it but now that they're here, I'm rooting for them all the way. So, go Giants!"

Plainfield Police Officer William Guy says it's the Giants' defense that will secure the championship victory. He watches every game with his fellow officers.

"Hopefully we blow 'em out, hopefully," Guy said. "But I'll take a win any way I can get it."

Mike Rachel, a Scotch Plains resident, is rooting for the Giants to win, but feels the game against San Francisco will be a challenge for the "G-Men."

"I think the 49ers are coming off a really great win that has boosted their confidence. They've had an incredible come-from-behind storybook season that will drive them to play hard enough to win against any formidable opponent. I'd like to see the Giants win, though, because I'd like to see them play the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl."

"I'd also like to see the Giants win because (wide receiver) Victor Cruz has had an incredible season coming off his injury from last year, proving to everyone that he's a true competitor," Rachel said. "I'm all in for the Giants."

In Westfield, Linda Frame, the assistant principal's secretary at Edison Intermediate School said about 20 percent of students were dressed in football gear Friday but only half of those are Giants fans.

Downtown, Lauren Ramos of Central Avenue's CoolVines said sports fans haven't started buying their beer just yet.

"We expect the big rush will be on Sunday morning," she said. "We haven't seen too many people yet but it'll probably start picking up tomorrow."

The Giants play the 49ers at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
