Wrong Man Killed in Union County Shooting: Prosecutor

The Plainfield man was not the intended target of the shooting, Union County Prosecutor report.

Plainfield, NJ -- Police are investigating the murder of a Union County man who was mistakenly killed in a shooting, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Thursday.

Gunshots were reported Wednesday, May 25 shortly after 6:45 p.m. in the 400 block of West 4th Street in Plainfield, Grace said.

Willie Lee Major, 37, of Plainfield was found at the scene and pronounced dead.

"It appears at this time that Major was not the intended target of the shooting," Park said.

The shooting is still under investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force, the Plainfield Police Division, the Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and the Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit.
