Car Left Running At Red Roof Inn In Secaucus Was Stolen, Police Say

SECAUCUS, NJ — A car that was parked at the Red Roof Inn in Secaucus Monday morning turned out to be reported stolen out of Newark, police said.

The woman who drove and parked the car was inside one of the motel rooms, and she was arrested at the scene yesterday.

Secaucus Police announced the incident in a press release distributed to the media Tuesday morning.

At 7:34 a.m. Monday, Secaucus Police Officer Kasey Kelly was patrolling the area of the Red Roof Inn on Meadowlands Parkway. He found an unoccupied Kia Forte parked, but running in the motel parking lot.

He checked the registration of the car and the Kia was reported to be stolen from Newark a day earlier, Sunday April 23.

An on-scene investigation was conducted and the driver of the vehicle, Doniesha Coar, 27 of Glassboro, was located in one of the motel rooms. During a search of her jacket she was found in possession of several 9mm handgun bullets, said police.

This comes after a truck that was left running outside the Plaza Pizza block of shops was stolen Sunday night, and later recovered in Jersey City after police tracked the GPS of a cell phone the driver had left in the car. A local Secaucus man got into the running car and drove off, said police; he was charged with auto theft.

Coar was charged with receiving stolen property [2C:20-7] and possession of handgun ammunition [2C:58-3.3b]. She had outstanding warrants issued from Wood Ridge with a bail of $1,000, Atlantic County with a bail of $1,000, Garfield with a bail of $1,000 and Cranford with a bail of $250. She was lodged in the Hudson County Jail.

“Our hotels will not be a safe haven for criminal activity to flourish,” said Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller. “I commend Police Officer Kelly for his keen eye and his proactivity. Secaucus police officers will continue to maintain a presence in all areas of town in an attempt to rid out criminal activity.”
