First-Ever Secaucus Diversity Fair Will Be March 19 At Rec Center

Come from 12-5 p.m. for cultural performances from over 12 different countries, international cuisine food trucks, arts and kids' events:

SECAUCUS, NJ — The first-ever International Diversity Fair will be held in Secaucus on March 19.

The fair will be held at the Secaucus Rec Center from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 19. This is a family-friendly event and all are welcome.

The fair is being put on by an organization called The Diversity Center in collaboration with the town of Secaucus.

One of the members of the Diversity Center is Archana Athalye, who lives in Harmon Cove. She said the organization hopes to one day open a cultural community center in North Jersey to celebrate diversity, language, the arts, dance, food and culture from across the world.

The International Diversity Fair will be their first major event. It will feature cultural performances from more than 12 ethnic communities across the world (Korea, Philippines, India, Turkey, Netherlands, Kenya, Uganda, Georgia, China, Mexico, Brazil, amongst others), book readings by diverse authors, international cuisine food trucks, arts and crafts plus activities for families to enjoy like an art competition, cricket and even a human foosball game!

The Diversity Center has conducted cultural immersion summer camps, school assemblies and workshops at local libraries. This event is supported by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

In a press release announcing the Diversity Fair, organizers included a quote from U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota): “Hope will be found by understanding that diversity is the essence of the American Dream and why we need each other to fulfill it."
