KEARNY, NJ — Last Thursday, May 9, a guard at the Hudson County Correctional Center in Kearny was arrested while he was at work at the jail, after police said they discovered suspected child pornography on his home computer.

Samuel Moreno, 53, of Jersey City, was arrested by detectives with the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.

Those detectives had previously executed a search warrant at Moreno's Jersey City home, where they said they found suspected child porn on his computer.

Moreno was charged with endangering the welfare of a child by possessing suspected child pornography, a third-degree crime.

Law enforcement is now able to track online audio and video porn files that involve underage victims, and they are able to pinpoint the IP addresses that download child porn. From there, they can usually link the IP address to a physical street address.

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said the Internal Affairs at the jail helped with the investigation.

“We will proactively investigate and prosecute any violation of the law to maintain the integrity of this facility," said Ron Edwards, director of the Hudson County Jail.

Moreno was processed, released and is scheduled to make his first appearance on this charge in Central Judicial Processing Court in the Hudson County Administration Building at 10:00 a.m. on May 30.
