Man On Cell Phone, Driving 80 MPH Caused Rt. 3 Crash In Secaucus: PD
A Union City man turned himself in to Secaucus Police Nov. 8 after police say he caused a car crash on Rt. 3 last year, while on his phone.
SECAUCUS, NJ — A Union City man turned himself in to Secaucus Police last Tuesday after police say he caused an overturn car crash on Rt. 3 last year, while going 80 miles per hour and talking on his cell phone.
Kennith Gonzalez, 21, of Union City, was charged with assault by auto for the crash, which occurred on March 19, 2021, say Secaucus Police. The Hudson County Prosecutor recommended the charge, which can carry three to five years in prison if convicted.
At 1:10 a.m. on March 19, 2021, Secaucus Police responded to the area of Rt. 3 East at Meadowlands Parkway on a report of a motor vehicle crash and roll-over.

Police and EMTs found an overturned 2019 Toyota Camry with a passenger unconscious and trapped in the back seat. Secaucus Police, fire and EMS were able to pull the man out of the car and he was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center and treated for a punctured and collapsed lung and multiple rib fractures.
An investigation by Secaucus Police Traffic Unit found that Gonzalez was driving a 2020 Ford Mustang on Rt. 3 east and rear-ended the Toyota Camry, sending the Camry off the road and overturning.

Gonzalez was traveling 80 miles per hour and using his cell phone when the collision occurred, say police.
After he was notified that there was a warrant out for his arrest by Secaucus Police, Gonzalez turned himself into Secaucus Police headquarters last Tuesday morning. He was criminally charged and has subsequently been released from police custody.
