Man Wanted In Secaucus Hit And Run Turns Himself In

SECAUCUS, NJ — He turned himself in. The man accused of hitting a woman in Secaucus last Monday, killing her and then fleeing the scene, turned himself in Thursday afternoon.

David Ceausu, 19, turned himself in to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office with his attorney just before 1 p.m. Thursday, following a widespread press and social media effort to locate him.

His name and photo had been shared with news outlets in New Jersey, New York, Maryland and other locations in the United States and Canada.

As Patch reported, Ceausu is accused of hitting 35-year-old Reyna Huerta-Flores as she walked home from work on a Rt. 3 East service road last Monday.

Police say he struck her with his 2020 Chevy Tahoe at 7:30 p.m. at 850 Paterson Plank Road, near the Secaucus Home Depot, Mamajuana Cafe and the entrance to the NJ Turnpike. She was taken to Hudson Regional Hospital where she was pronounced deceased at 11:16 p.m.

She was killed while walking home from her job at a mozzarella cheese-making business in Secaucus.

Many people walk back and forth between Secaucus and Union City/Hoboken and West New York, although it is an extremely high-traffic area.

Ceausu was charged with knowingly leaving the scene of an accident, resulting in death, which is a second-degree crime. His last known town of residence was Baltimore. Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez thanked the public and the media for their attention to the case.
