It is unknown what the man was doing in her yard (he did not try to enter the home), but many Secaucus police officers responded and set up a perimeter, looking for the man. The man was unable to be located, and police made the decision to break down the perimeter and move on that night.

Not Officer Sigmund.

On his own volition, he decided to stay behind and continue walking the neighborhood looking for the man. He located a man matching the description some time later on Chestnut Street, and started speaking with him. Unknown to Sigmund, the man had PCP (angel dust), ecstasy and crack cocaine on him and he also had a defaced handgun in his waistband. The gun was also fully loaded.

A later review of Sigmund's body camera footage showed the man put his hands directly in the location of the hidden gun while Sigmund was speaking with him. Additional officers were called and the man was taken into police custody and charged with multiple offenses.
