• Man charged with arson after Somerset County fire displaces 15, kills 2 pets (wrnjradio.com) — A suspicious apartment fire on Home Street in the Somerset section of Franklin Township displaced 15 residents and killed two pets, and a New Brunswick man now faces aggravated arson and related charges. No people were hurt, but three families needed Red Cross help, and investigators are still seeking tips from anyone in Somerset who may have photos, video, or information about what happened.

• Bridgewater moves to end health benefits for future elected officials (mycentraljersey.com) — Bridgewater officials are moving toward ending township-funded health insurance for future mayors and council members, after spending more than $630,000 on elected officials' benefits in five years. For Somerset-area residents, the debate matters because Franklin and other Somerset County towns still provide coverage, and Bridgewater leaders say they hope neighboring municipalities will reconsider how much taxpayer money goes to officials' health plans.
