• A Fresh Start in The 'Ville: Somerville Public Schools Open the 2026-27 Year With New Staff, New Classrooms, and Newly Renovated Spaces (tapinto.net) — Somerville students will return Sept. 2 to schools with new staff, a joint preschool program with the Somerville YMCA, and freshly renovated classrooms funded by a $44 million bond. District leaders highlight expanded early childhood offerings, added instructional supervisors, and ongoing construction at Van Derveer, the middle school, and Somerville High that aims to improve learning spaces this fall. 
• Independent Air Quality Testing Gives Somerville Library a Clean Bill of Health One Month after Abrupt Closure Blamed on Mold (tapinto.net) — Independent tests have found no mold or air-quality problems at Somerville's Borough Hall library, but county library leaders still plan to leave the historic building and seek a new downtown site. While officials dispute the closure, Somerville patrons can continue using nearby branches, digital services, and pop-up programs hosted with local partners until a new location is secured.
• Somerville football preview: Key skill players return to championship contenders (nj.com subscription) — Somerville High's football team returns its starting quarterback and several key playmakers in a spread offense that coach Matt Bloom believes can contend for divisional and sectional titles. While skill positions look strong and some players draw college interest, limited depth and inexperience on the lines remain the biggest concern heading into the 2026 campaign.
