Bears Are Back In South Brunswick: Video Of Bear On Georges Road
BREAKING: It's the first South Brunswick bear sighting of the 2017 season, and it happened on Georges Road this week.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - Well, it's happened: The first bear of the 2017 season has been spotted in South Brunswick Township. A black bear was spotted near a home on Georges Road near Viking Way earlier this week, police said. The homeowner's security camera picked up video of the bear, seen below, strolling around on their driveway.
Earlier, the homeowner told police the bear had been rifling through their garbage cans.
"This is the time of year where black bears can typically be reported traveling through our community," South Brunswick police said in a Nixle alert. "It is important to understand that black bears reside in all 21 counties of New Jersey. Most bear sightings are while they are moving from one area to another through natural wooded corridors. So if you see a bear in South Brunswick, it’s usually one bear moving through the wooded areas between neighborhoods."

Spring is when bears start to come out of hibernation. While South Brunswick has never had a problem with a bear, there have been dozens of sightings in recent years, nearly always in the late spring and summer months. A baby black bear was seen twice last April, once on Sandhill Road and then again on Welcome Farms Road. A bear was seen multiple times around the Brunswick Acres development last July and a black bear was actually scared away by a cat when it wandered into a Ridge Road backyard last June.
