Bus Company President To Join Board Of Middlesex County Crime Stoppers

The president of a New Brunswick bus company will be appointed to the Board of Directors of Crime Stoppers of Middlesex County, Inc.

The president of a New Brunswick bus company will be appointed to the Board of Directors of Crime Stoppers of Middlesex County, Inc.

Scott S. Sprengel, the president/general manager of Suburban Transit, will join the board on Wednesday, according to a news release from Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Anthony A. Caputo, the director of the New Brunswick Police Department and chairman and president of the nonprofit Crime Stoppers.

Suburban Transit will also become a corporate sponsor of Crime Stoppers.

The bus company will place Crime Stoppers stickers on its fleet to remind residents that they can easily report crimes anonymously in Middlesex County and receive cash rewards for their assistance.

“Suburban Transit is pleased to become a corporate sponsor and will be dedicated to helping law enforcement track criminal suspects and help ensure the safety of all of the county’s residents,’’ Sprengel said in a prepared statement.

Sprengel, of Wall, began working for Coach USA, owners of Suburban Transit, in 2007 and has been involved in the transportation industry for more than 25 years. Crime Stoppers was created in May 2011.

Carey said Sprengel has been a strong supporter of law enforcement.

Caputo said Sprengel “is dedicated to the support of our emergency responders, both in the law enforcement and fire services, as well as our military and war veterans.”

“Mr. Sprengel has long been involved in the community, has roots in Middlesex County and brings a lot of integrity to the board,’’ Caputo said in a prepared statement.

In Middlesex County, people can provide anonymous information using the Crime Stoppers’ phone number, website and text messaging system. The phone number is: 1-­800-­939-­9600. The website is: middlesextips.com. Text messages may be sent to 274637 (CRIMES) with the keyword ‘’midtip’’ followed by a message.

Callers will get instructions about collecting cash rewards by using a numerical code that will be recognized by a local bank, which will pay rewards approved by the board.

Other corporate sponsors of Crime Stoppers are: Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Johnson & Johnson, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 456, and Greater Media Newspapers, which publishes four weekly newspapers in Middlesex County.
