Dozen Warnings Given for South Brunswick Sidewalks

Police have talked to a dozen property owners Monday and Tuesday, warning them to either clear their sidewalks or face a $2,000 fine.

South Brunswick, NJ - South Brunswick police have talked to a dozen property owners Monday and Tuesday, warning them to either clear their sidewalks or face a $2,000 fine.

“We have handed out a dozen warnings so far between Monday and Tuesday,” Captain James Ryan told Patch. “We realize the snow was one of the largest we have had, and are trying to let citizens know they need to clear it off.”

“Today was the first day of school, so issues became more apparent,” he added.

The police have fielded several phone calls and emails complaining people have not shoveled their sidewalks, he said. All sidewalks must be clear 12 hours from when the snow stops.

Also, if police see you driving with snow and ice on your car, it’s a $25 to $75 fine, regardless of whether the ice and snow is dislodged from the vehicle. If flying ice or snow causes property damage or injury to others, drivers face fines of $200 to $1,000.
