SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A local Kendall Park man in his 60s was briefly trapped inside his car when it burst into flames following a two-car collision Tuesday morning at Rt. 1 and New Road, say South Brunswick police.
That is an extremely busy intersection, and Rt. 1 at New Road was closed in both directions for several hours on Tuesday.
The crash occurred at 10:07 a.m. Tuesday: The car driven by the Kendall Park man was making a turn onto Rt. 1 from New Road, with the green light, when he was T-boned by a car headed southbound on Rt. 1, said Lt. Gene Rickle of the South Brunswick police.

The car on Rt. 1, driven by a Plainsboro resident, drove through a red light, said police.
The impact of the collision caused both cars to spin out onto Rt. 1 and one of them hit a third car. The Kendall Park man was briefly trapped inside his car when it caught fire. Police and responding fire crews rescued him and he was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The other two drivers were not injured, he said.
