James E. Ryan, now the seventh chief in the department's history, has held every rank in the South Brunswick Police Department and led numerous community and disaster-relief efforts. Township leaders praise his deep local roots and commitment to service as he officially takes command.

Loose Tire Slams Windshield, Injures Driver In South Brunswick (patch.com) — Drivers in South Brunswick are being reminded how quickly a routine trip can turn dangerous after a loose tire from a northbound vehicle on Route 1 flew over the median and smashed into a southbound car's windshield. South Brunswick police say a 59-year-old Teaneck woman was seriously hurt but is expected to survive, while the East Windsor driver who lost the tire received a summons.

South Brunswick Mulch Fire Keeps Firefighters On Scene for Hours (patch.com) — South Brunswick residents saw a major response Sunday morning when a mulch pile caught fire at Reliable Wood Products on Broadway Road, drawing Monmouth Junction and neighboring fire departments. Crews spent hours containing the blaze and shuttling in water, causing traffic disruptions and prompting officials to urge drivers to avoid the area.
