South Brunswick, NJ - Police in South Brunswick, North Brunswick and East Brunswick are warning of heavy rain showers with possible flooding Friday afternoon in and around the area.

Intense periods of rain will go from 1 to 10 p.m. Friday, with the main threat from 4 to 8 p.m., police said, as they follow alerts from the National Weather Service. Police wrote:

A surface boundary along with a disturbance approaching from the west will allow showers and thunderstorms to develop during the afternoon. A moisture-rich atmosphere will result in localized heavy downpours. The slow movement of these showers with possibly repetitive occurrence over the same local area will result in an enhanced threat of localized flooding.

Localized rainfall amounts could exceed 2.5"+ in an hour or less. Showers and thunderstorms will initially be scattered becoming most numerous between 4 and 8 p.m. Cannot rule out damaging wind gusts and small hail in a few of the strongest storms but any severe weather should not be widespread with localized flooding the main concern.
