Major Delays Expected Again On Route 18 Near Route 1

Major bridge work is scheduled to begin Friday and run through Monday on Route 18 near Route 1, police said.

Major bridge work is expected again this weekend on Route 18 near Route 1, East Brunswick police said.

The work is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Friday and run until Monday morning.

  • Two lanes of traffic will be open on Route 18 north and south, but lane closures and 15 minute stoppages are possible.
  • The ramp to Route 18 south from Route 1 south will be closed all weekend.
  • The ramp to Route 18 north from Route 1 north will be closed all weekend.
  • The ramp to Route 1 south from Route 18 north “will be closed in conjunction with the auxiliary lane on Route 18 north.”
  • Traffic on one lane of Route 18 north will be diverted onto the southbound bridge through the use of a moveable barrier system.
  • Traffic on one lane of Route 18 north will be moved to the left lane of the bridge while construction crews work in the right and center lanes of the highway.
  • Route 18 south will be reduced to two lanes.

Police said drivers should expect major delays and plan alternate routes if possible.
