SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Last Friday, April 26, South Brunswick police released their annual 2018 police report. It's worth a read and details the total number of officers in the department, the annual budget and some of their community outreach efforts, such as the yearly Heroes and Helpers event, where South Brunswick police take local kids shopping around the holidays.

Cyber Harassment: Detectives investigated a cyber harassment incident involving a juvenile. The victim was deceived into sending nude photographs of himself and the actor threatened to expose the victim if he did not send more. The actor and five other victims were identified and charges are pending.

Endangering the Welfare of a Child: A driver of a vehicle was involved in a crash and determined to be under the influence of several illicit drugs. The driver’s six-month-old child was in the vehicle at the time of the crash and sustained minor injuries. The driver was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, assault by auto, possession of CDS and driving while under the influence. The driver was lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center.

Bank Robbery: Detectives investigated a robbery at a Kendall Park bank. The actor presented a note demanding money or he would shoot. The actor fled the bank without proceeds and ran north on Rt. 27.

February

Burglary Arrest: Detectives identified the actor doing burglaries to motor vehicles that occurred in the Dayton section of the township in early 2017. The actor was extradited from Florida and lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center. He was served with charges for burglary, theft and check fraud.

Attempted Murder/Aggravated Assault Arrest: Detectives assisted the Patrol Division with an attempted murder investigation during which an elderly victim was struck with blunt objects numerous times. A search warrant was obtained for the residence and evidence of the crime was recovered. The actor was arrested and confessed to detectives. He was lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center.

Criminal Restraint/Lewdness Arrest: Detectives investigated an allegation involving a female victim being restrained while a male actor masturbated on her. The actor was arrested for criminal restraint, lewdness and harassment.

Endangering the Welfare of a Child Arrest: Detectives conducted a proactive investigation into the
possession and distribution of child pornography. A search warrant was executed at a Kendall Park
residence and numerous electronics were seized as evidence. The suspect confessed his actions and was lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center. The FBI assisted in the investigation.

Endangering the Welfare of a Child: An investigation into multiple sex crimes resulted in the actor’s arrest. The actor was charged with endangering the welfare of child, two counts of invasion of privacy, possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography.

Aggravated Assault: An investigation into a report of an assault resulted in the arrest of a juvenile. The juvenile was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The juvenile was lodged in the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center.

Burglary Arrest: An investigation into a burglary of a township residence and theft of electronics and other personal items resulted in the arrest of the actor.

Endangering the Welfare of a Child Arrest: Detectives conducted a proactive investigation into the
possession and distribution of child pornography. A search warrant was executed at a Kendall Park
residence and numerous electronics were seized as evidence. The suspect was arrested and lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center. The FBI and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office assisted with the investigation.

April
Megan’s Law Violation: Detectives investigated the whereabouts of a Megan’s Law registrant that
appeared to have moved. The registrant was arrested on multiple warrants including failure to register. The registrant also re-registered with our department.

Assist other Agency: Detectives assisted the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Marlboro Police Department with a robbery investigation that occurred in their jurisdiction. The actor was arrested by our agency at a township residence and his vehicle was impounded.

The actor was charged by the Marlboro Police Department with robbery and weapons offenses.

Theft Arrest: An investigation into the Theft of multiple truck batteries from a township business resulted in the arrest of the actor.

May
Fraud Arrest: An investigation into a fraud from a local business resulted in the arrest of the actor.

Identity Theft/Theft by Deception Arrest: An investigation into a local business being defrauded with the use of stolen credit cards over the course of a month resulted in the arrest of the actor.

Assault Arrest: An investigation into an assault that resulted in the victim sustaining a head injury and being transported to the hospital resulted in the arrest of the actor.

Invasion of Privacy/Cyber Harassment Arrest: An investigation into a nude photograph of a juvenile being shared on social media resulted in the arrest of the actor. The actor was charged with cyber harassment and invasion of privacy. The actor was also charged with additional cyber harassment charges involving two unrelated victims.

June
Theft Arrest: An investigation into the theft of over $5,000.00 worth of prescription medication and a power saw resulted in the arrest of the actor. The actor confessed to the crime and all of the property was recovered.

Motor Vehicle Burglary Arrests: An investigation into burglaries to vehicles throughout the township resulted in the arrest of the two actors. Both actors confessed to the crimes and were charged with multiple burglaries and thefts. The stolen property was also recovered.

Aggravated Assault Arrest: An investigation into an aggravated assault on a police officer resulted in the arrest of the actor. He was lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center.

Manslaughter Arrest: Detectives investigated the death of a two-year-old child (He died May 15 at his home on Sand Hill Road). After lab results determined the child ingested a prescription opioid the child’s mother was interviewed again. During the second interview, the mother confessed to detectives that she knew the child ingested her prescription opioid. The mother was charged with the child’s death and lodged in the county jail. July
Burglary/Criminal Mischief: An investigation into a burglary and criminal mischief to a storage shed resulted in the arrest of two juveniles.

Receiving Stolen Property Arrest: An investigation into the sale of stolen items from a local business resulted in the arrest of a township man for buying stolen property from one of his son’s friends.

Robbery: An investigation into a robbery of CDS and other personal belongings resulted in the arrest of three juveniles.

Burglary: An investigation into a burglary to a local business resulted in the actor being identified and charged with burglary. Several weeks later detectives were able to locate the actor and arrest him.

Lewdness Arrest: An investigation into a report of an adult masturbating in public resulted in the arrest of the actor. The actor confessed to detectives and was charged with lewdness. Burglary/DNA Hit: Detectives followed up on a DNA hit from a commercial burglary that occurred in May 2017. The DNA found at the scene identified the actor. The actor was charged with the burglary but has yet to be located.

August
CDS Arrest: While conducting a vehicle burglary detail, detectives located a suspicious occupied vehicle. After a brief investigation the occupant was arrested for possession of narcotics.

Missing Person: Detectives conducted an investigation into the whereabouts of a missing juvenile.
Detectives located an address where they believed the juvenile was staying in Brooklyn, NY. Detectives contacted the NYPD and the juvenile was located at the address.

Bias Incident: Detectives investigated a bias incident involving a township resident. The resident made racist comments to a juvenile lifeguard at a township development pool. The resident was arrested for disorderly conduct and released.

MV Burglary Arrests: An investigation into numerous burglaries to motor vehicles resulted in the arrests of a man and woman. Both actors were staying at a local hotel. A consent search of their room was conducted and numerous stolen items were seized and recovered. Both actors were charged with multiple burglaries, thefts, and receiving stolen properties as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. Both actors confessed to detectives. The items seized were linked to multiple burglaries in other jurisdictions.

Aggravated Sexual Assault Arrest: An investigation into the Sexual Assault of an 11 year old female
resulted in the arrest of a 13 year old male juvenile. The male juvenile confessed to detectives and was lodged in the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center.

September

Theft by Deception Arrest: An investigation into the theft of packages on three separate dates from a township FedEx facility resulted in an arrest. The actor used fraudulent identifications to obtain the packages. He was charged with theft by deception, identity theft and possession of fraudulent documents.

Theft: Detectives are investigating the theft of jewelry from an elderly victim’s residence. The
investigation identified an employee of a senior services business as the actor. The actor was assigned to assist the victim at their residence. The actor was arrested after he was located.

Robbery: Detectives investigated a robbery at a local business. The actor stole 13 cartons of cigarettes and threatened the clerk. A suspect was identified and arrested.

Robbery Arrest: An investigation into a robbery at a local gas station resulted in an arrest. The female actor assaulted the attendant and attempted to open the cash register. The actor was lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center.

Theft Arrest: A lengthy investigation into numerous incidents of theft by deceptions by an owner of a township car dealership resulted in his arrest. The investigation was done by South Brunswick
Detectives and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office. A search warrant was executed at the former business and a fictitious bank account was seized. The car dealership owner was arrested at his residence and lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center.

October

Shoplifting Arrest: An investigation into the theft of a case of cigarettes from a local convenience store resulted in the arrest of the actor. The actor was lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center.

Burglary/Theft: Detectives investigated a burglary and theft at a township convenience store. The stolen items from the burglary were located in South Jersey. Detectives were able to identify one of the actors and a warrant was issued for his arrest. The actor was located several weeks later and arrested.

Theft by Deception Arrest: Detectives worked with the South Brunswick Municipal Court to identify an actor who altered a municipal court check and withdrew money. The detectives were able to identify the actor through surveillance footage. She was charged with the theft and later arrested.

Harassment: An investigation into multiple FedEx packages being sent to a township resident in
retaliation of a prior civil dispute resulted in the actor being charged with harassment and arrested.

Lewdness Arrest: Detectives investigated an act of lewdness. The juvenile actor was identified and
arrested.

Aggravated Sexual Assault Arrest: An investigation into an aggravated sexual assault of a 12 year old girl resulted in the arrest of the juvenile male actor. The juvenile was lodged in the Middlesex County Youth Detention Center.

November

Burglary: Detectives assisted with the investigation of an attempted burglary to a residence. The actor was apprehended and a show-up identification was done which resulted in a positive identification of the actor. The actor was interviewed by detectives and confessed. He was later lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center on attempted burglary and criminal mischief charges.

Burglary: An investigation into a burglary at a local church and the theft of numerous musical
instruments and equipment resulted in the recovery of all the stolen property and the suspect being arrested for receiving stolen property in Middletown Township, PA.

Defiant Trespass Arrest: An investigation into an attempted burglary to a residence that occurred in October 2018 resulted in the recovery of several latent finger prints which lead to the actor’s identity and arrest.

Death Investigation: Detectives investigated the death of a 23 year old male at a local hotel. The male was swimming in the hotel pool, lost consciousness and drowned. The Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and determined the death to be from natural causes. Attempted Luring of a Juvenile Arrest: An investigation into the attempted luring of a high school student resulted in the arrest of the actor. The actor was interviewed by detectives and made incriminating statements. He was subsequently charged with attempted luring of a Juvenile.

Forgery/Theft by Deception Arrest: An investigation into the theft and forgery of checks resulted in the actor’s arrest. The actor confessed to detectives and was charged with uttering, forgery, theft by deception and receiving stolen property. He was lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center.

December

Shoplifting / Theft – The Investigations Division finished a several month investigation of cigarette thefts from local Wawa convenience stores in South Brunswick and neighboring towns. The suspect, a New Brunswick resident was identified for all of the crimes throughout Middlesex County. He was later located in New Brunswick and arrested and lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center.

Assist Other Agency: Detectives assisted a North Carolina police agency with a fraud investigation where the actor had been involved in loan scams by filing false on-line applications. The actor in North Carolina also filed an on-line police report with our agency. The FBI is in the process of taking over the investigation due to activity in multiple states.
