Man Killed After Being Crushed By Granite Slab In South Brunswick

A man was killed in a workplace accident at Empire Marble and Granite In South Brunswick Thursday, police said.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - A worker was killed on Thursday afternoon after a slab of granite fell on him in South Brunswick, authorities said.

At 3:28 p.m. on Thursday, South Brunswick Police, EMS, and Monmouth Junction Fire Department responded to Empire Marble and Granite at 5 Chris Court, for a report of a 37-year-old man trapped under a slab on concrete.

Officers arrived to find the man's coworkers had removed much of the slab off of him, police said. EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene. According to investigators, a customer had picked out a slab of granite and the workers were moving it when it fell backwards onto the man.

The man, whose identity was not released, is from Marlton where he lived with his wife and children, police said.

The United States Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating.
