Middlesex County Man Found Guilty Of Illegal Wiretapping

Kirk Eady, an East Brunswick resident, who was a supervisor at a North Jersey county jail, has been found guilty of illegal wiretapping.

An East Brunswick man, who was a supervisor at a North Jersey county jail, has been found guilty of illegally wiretapping his co-workers, authorities said.

Kirk Eady, 46, of East Brunswick, was found guilty Friday of one count of intentionally intercepting the wire, oral or electronic communications of others following a four-day federal trial before U.S. District Court Judge Jose L. Linares.

Eady, the deputy director of the Hudson County Correctional Facility, was found guilty following three hours of deliberations by the jury, according to a news release from the office of Paul J. Fishman, the U.S. Attorney in Newark.

According to the documents filed in this case and the evidence at trial:

In 2012, he used the services of a website more than 10 times to intercept phone calls of his co-workers and another person who had been critical of his performance at work.

Eady was able to hide the phone number from which the call originated, then called two of his co-workers at the same time, making it appear as if one or both of them had initiated the call. He also recorded the phone calls without their consent.

He faces up to five years in federal prison at sentencing, which is scheduled for July 8.
