South Brunswick's 'Hometown Hero' Buddy Thomas Dies At 88 (patch.com) — South Brunswick is mourning the loss of 88-year-old Marine veteran and longtime resident Buddy Thomas, honored by the township with flags at half-staff. Remembered as a "Living Local Legend," he helped bring POW/MIA flags to local schools and buildings and remained active in Toys for Tots, leaving a legacy of service and community spirit.
   

2. South Brunswick Police Chief Jim Ryan Takes Oath Of Office (patch.com) — South Brunswick has a new top cop, as 31-year department veteran Jim Ryan was sworn in as the township's seventh police chief during a ceremony at the public library amphitheater. A longtime resident and community volunteer, Ryan has held every rank in the department and officially began leading the force on Sept. 1, pledging strong service to local residents.
   

3. Where to pick your own apples in N.J. this fall: A farm-by-farm guide. (nj.com subscription) — If you're craving fall fun close to home, Von Thun Farms in South Brunswick is offering daily U-pick apples starting Sept. 19 as part of its Fall Festival season. Despite a harsh spring freeze that hurt many New Jersey orchards, nearly two dozen farms statewide still have apples, though supplies may be limited and visitors are urged to check ahead before going.
   

4. 2 friends dead after train strikes them on NYC subway track (rollingout.com) — A young woman from South Brunswick and a friend from Sayreville, both 24-year-old Rutgers graduates, were struck and killed by a subway train at Manhattan's Spring Street station early Sept. 13. Investigators are still piecing together why they were on the tracks, while friends and colleagues remember them as bright, outgoing professionals with promising futures in pharmacy and finance.
