Police Investigating Armed Home Invasion Near Rutgers

The victims are affiliated with Rutgers University. Police say there were signs of marijuana use at the victims' home.

Police are investigating an armed home invasion at an off-campus residence near Rutgers University.

Rutgers police issued an alert about the case, which involved victims who are affiliated with the university. New Brunswick are heading up the investigation into the robbery, which occurred around 1:45 a.m. Thursday at an off-campus home on Guilden Street, between Bristol and Prosper streets.

The victims heard voices outside, and when they checked the alleyway next to the house, the were confronted by three robbers who wore masks, according to Rutgers police.

One of the robbers used the handle of a handgun to hit one of the victims, and then the thieves entered the house and demanded “items of value,’’ the alert said.

The thieves then ran away, down Guilden Street.

City police saw signs of marijuana use at the home, the alert said.

The victim who was hit with the gun sustained non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The description of the robbers is limited, police said.

New Brunswick police are handling the investigation. Anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, is asked to call the New Brunswick Police Department Detective Bureau at 732-745-5217.
