Police: Man Tried to Carjack Woman In Walmart Parking Lot

Police say the man tried to steal shrimp from the store, and tried to carjack a woman as she was pulling out of the parking lot.

Police say they arrested a man who tried to steal frozen shrimp from Walmart on Route 1 in North Brunswick, and tried to carjack a woman as she pulled out of the store parking lot.

According to a press release posted on the North Brunswick police department’s Facebook page:

Around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Walmart security guards called police about the shoplifting.

The man - later identified as Leon B. Branch Jr. of the Somerset section of Franklin - ran away from security guards, fleeing across Route 1.

When police arrived, he crossed the highway again, and officers took him into custody.

That’s when the victim approached police and said Branch had tried to carjack her as she pulled out of the parking lot. He tried to enter and take control of her vehicle, but she stopped him.

Branch was charged with shoplifting and attempted carjacking. He is being held at the Middlesex County jail, in North Brunswick.
