Police Plan Increased Presence At South Brunswick Schools For Start Of School Year

South Brunswick police also plan to target traffic safety violations near schools. The first day of school is Thursday.

South Brunswick police plan to increase their presence at schools and have created an enhanced traffic safety program to help district officials start the new year.

“The start of each school year creates a lot of adjustments for students, parents, teachers, and the motoring public. Our goal is to make sure it is a safe transition,” Chief Raymond Hayducka said in a prepared statement.

Police will place officers at every school at the start and the end of the day through the program, known as Operation Safe Schools 2015.

Some 10,000 students around town will be back in school by Thursday morning, police said, adding that drivers should factor additional time into their morning commutes.

“The added buses, pedestrians, and parents dropping off children requires that all drivers slow down and use caution,” said Hayducka. “This year is unique in that schools are going back in session before Labor Day and drivers need to be aware of the earlier start.”
