South Brunswick Detective Honored for Anti-Littering Efforts

South Brunswick, NJ - Not only does he keep the peace, this South Brunswick police detective picks up litter, too.

Detective Michael Pellino received the annual “Enforcement” Award from the New Jersey Clean Communities Council. Along with making multiple arrests this past year, Pellino set an example in his community with his hard work and dedication to the South Brunswick Clean Communities Program. In April 2016, the local program led 456 volunteers to pick up 15,000 pounds of litter.

“Our main objective is to catch those littering and educate them about the effects of their litter. They are sent a warning letter and anti-litter information,” said Detective Pellino. “We are proud to be making a difference.”
The Enforcement Award recognizes individuals who develop and execute an enforcement strategy or program that will reduce litter and enforce solid waste laws.

“Detective Pellino has shown his commitment to educating others about various litter and solid waste laws, with tremendous dedication to his local program in South Brunswick,” said NJCCC Executive Director Sandy Huber. “He is the ideal person to win our Enforcement Award for 2016.”

NJCCC is a comprehensive, statewide litter-abatement program that has served New Jersey residents and visitors for more than 25 years.
