South Brunswick Ordered To Build 1,374 Affordable Housing Units

The ruling is to make up for units not built between 1999 and 2015.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ-- A New Jersey Superior Court judge has ordered South Brunswick to build 1,374 affordable housing units that should have been built between 1999-2015, njbiz.com reported.

During that 16 year period, the township was continuously challenged in court over their affordable housing guidelines, creating a "gap period."

“I am satisfied that the affordable housing need that accrued during the 16-year gap period must be included as a component part of South Brunswick’s fair share obligation,” Judge Douglas K. Wolfson wrote in his ruling.

Previous affordable housing proposals in South Brunswick met public opposition. A proposal for affordable housing on New Road upset current residents, who worried the extra cars on the road would make existing traffic problems worse.
