South Brunswick Police: Controlled Burn Will Create Smoke in Kingston Area Wednesday

The New Jersey Forestry Service is conducting a controlled burn Wednesday, according to South Brunswick police.

The New Jersey Forestry Services will conduct a controlled burn Wednesday that is expected to create a smoke condition in the Kingston/Route 27 area, South Brunswick police said.

The controlled burn in the Mapleton Preserve was scheduled to begin shortly after 9 a.m. and could last until 3 p.m.

The state Forestry Services have been conducting “prescribed burns,’’ to prevent wildfires since 1928, according to its website.

Crews set fires “under exacting conditions to reduce the underbrush (the “fuel” for a fire), in areas that are prone to fire, or that may be located in a position where we feel we can defend against an oncoming wildfire,” the website said.
