South Brunswick Reports First COVID Cases In School District

A student and teacher tested positive for the virus last week, said the district.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — South Brunswick on Tuesday reported two confirmed COVID cases in the school district — a student and teacher.

According to Superintendent Scott Feder, the student was not in school due to travelling out-of -state. “At no time was the student present in school surrounding the COVID testing and/or results,” said Feder in his message to the school community.

The second case of a staff member testing positive for COVID resulted in a few students and some staff having to quarantine.

He asked the community to remain vigilant and follow “strong protocols” to prevent the spread of the virus, especially in cases of asymptomatic individuals.

“Our best defense is to maintain strong protocols for prevention and then strong protocols for reacting to a case or symptomatic individuals. I confidently share that we are doing those things and will continue to improve through experience,” he said.

Over the past few weeks, the school district has been bringing back students to school buildings in a phased manner.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the town reported its biggest increase in COVID cases since mid-May.
