Surviving the Storm in South Brunswick

South Brunswick, NJ - South Brunswick is battening down the hatches against the looming storm, where 12 to 18 inches of snow are expected to fall on the township, police and forecasters said.
There is no parking on any roads in the township starting Friday night until Sunday afternoon, police said. It is expected that snow will start to fall in South Brunswick around 11 p.m. Friday night and intensify Saturday morning before finally stopping early Sunday.
The South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management will set up an operation center to monitor the storm and handle the increased calls. Residents should limit all non-essential travel Saturday.

‘Near-zero’ visibility Saturday afternoon
Wind gusts of 30-50 mph are expected Saturday afternoon through the night. Those high winds, with the snow, will credit near-zero visibility driving situations, police said, as well as blowing-drifting snow. Please stay off the roads, officials ask.

Prepare for power outages
While snow and wind normally don’t pose a serious problem, icing on lines and trees can increase the possibility of downed wires and power outages, said police.
PSE&G is advising everyone prepare an emergency kit that includes:
- Water, one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days
- Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- First aid kit
- Manual can opener for food
- Cell phones, tablets and other mobile devices that have been charge
To prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, do not run any gasoline powered engine, including generators and snowblowers, in a garage or any other enclosed space.
