Teacher From Middlesex County Charged With Sexually Assaulting Boy For Five Years

Authorities say the South Plainfield High School English teacher sexually assaulted a boy on various occasions since 2010.

Police arrested a South Plainfield High School English teacher who authorities say sexually assaulted a teen for almost five years.

John Angeline, 40, of South Plainfield was charged Monday with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, which are both second degree offenses, and third-degree criminal sexual contact.

Detectives determined Angeline began sexually assaulting the boy in South Plainfield in August 2010, when the child was 15-years-old, according to a news release from Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and South Plainfield Police Chief James Parker.

Police launched an investigation after the victim told relatives, who contacted authorities, the news release said.

Angeline began working as a substitute teacher in South Plainfield in September 2005, then was hired as a full-time English teacher at the middle school in February 2006. He began working at the high school in September 2008.

He was sent to the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick.

Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Detective George Stilwell and South Plainfield Detective Lloyd McNelly are handling the investigation, which is ongoing.
