Cranbury Police Chief Vows To Find Driver Who Hit Teen Girl, Killed Her Dog

"We are actively following up to locate the driver who callously drove away without stopping," said the Cranbury police chief Thursday.

CRANBURY, NJ — A young teenage girl was injured and her dog was killed when they were struck by a car Wednesday evening in a hit and run in Cranbury Township. The hit and run occurred just before 6:30 p.m. on South Main Street, near Evans Drive and it appeared to have involved a light-colored or silver SUV, possibly a Ford, Cranbury police said. It may be an older model. The teen hit was a 13-year-old girl out walking her dog. She was injured, but her dog was killed on impact.

"She was struck by what is believed to be a Ford Expedition, possibly beige in color, with silver trim which was traveling northbound on South Main Street," said Cranbury Police Chief Rickey A. Varga. "The young teen suffered moderate injury. Unfortunately her dog died from its injuries. The vehicle fled the scene without stopping."

They were struck while walking in the cross walk, crossing South Main Street near Evans Drive. The girl was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with non-life threatening injuries.
