SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Here are the top stories that made the news this year in South Brunswick, with the biggest story of all probably being the news that a North Brunswick NJ Transit stop got major approval this year. However, construction hasn't started yet and its opening is still several years away.

Top Rutgers Cancer Surgeon Charged With Filming Women In Bathroom (February 2019)

OK, this is not technically South Brunswick, but it's close: Dr. Robert Goydos, who lives in East Brunswick, is one of the most respected melanoma doctors in New Jersey, if not the entire nation. But this winter, this Rutgers cancer surgeon was charged with secretly photographing more than two dozen women as they used the bathroom at Robert Wood Johnson University hospital in New Brunswick. The alleged videotaping spanned a two-year period, from April 2016 through March 2018, the Middlesex County prosecutor said. Goydos denies the charges.

North Brunswick Train Station Gets Major NJ Transit Approval (October 2019)

Just huge news for residents in North Brunswick, East Brunswick and South Brunswick who have been waiting for a train station along Rt. 1 for years. However, construction hasn't started yet and its opening is still several years off.

South Brunswick Mom: Son Told To 'Move Your A** Out' Of Country (October 2019)

A sad story that stunned many in South Brunswick, and all of New Jersey: A South Brunswick mom said her 11-year-old son was told by an adult man at the Cambridge Elementary playground to "move your a** out of this country, you are a (expletive) Indian coming to our country to steal our jobs and money." The family is originally from Syria. The man was found by police, and he denies the charges.

"I was really shocked when (my son) came home and told me," said the mom in a phone interview with Patch. "This is South Brunswick, a very diverse community. My kids have gone to all the public schools here for years and never had any issue. This is the first time I've heard of something like this happening here."
