SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — South Brunswick police released this video of the deer that ran out Friday evening at the Black Lives Matter protest march on Stouts Lane, colliding with three protesters and seriously injuring one.

Police said that, as of Tuesday, the 69-year-old woman who had to be hospitalized for her injuries has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.

An estimated 750 people attended the 3.5-mile march; this was South Brunswick's second #BLM march.

The protest march had just started at 5:44 p.m. Friday on Stouts Lane when a deer ran from South Brunswick High School property onto Stouts Lane and struck the woman, as well as two other people in the crowd, who were minorly injured.

But the woman suffered the most serious injuries, said police, with serious injuries to her head and face. She was immediately treated by officers and a bystander and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where she was admitted for several days.

South Brunswick Police also released video of the incident.

The first part of the video is from a surveillance system; it shows the deer leave the school property and enter the roadway. The crowd can be seen moving apart as the deer enters the road.

The second part of the video comes from a patrol car that moves from the rear of the march to where the woman was injured.

South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka credited Detective Bryan Sites and a bystander for their fast actions.

"Detective Sites saw the incident and immediately reacted to stop her bleeding. He applied pressure to her head wounds and called for EMS. The actions of Detective Sites along with the bystander saved the woman,” said Chief Hayducka. "I am proud how all the officers worked to ensure the safety of the march, but specifically Detective Sites' actions."
