March 2013 South Orange updates
Update on some key activities in South Orange that all residents should know about.
Periodically, I send out updates to everyone in town I have communicated with via email. Last night, I sent the following updates that have not been reported on Patch, and are worth sharing with the full community:
Trash pickup - Starting in April, South Orange Disposal will offer three different pickup and pricing options, as shown below. For more information, please visit their website at http://www.southorangedisposal.com or call them directly at (973) 762-3880

- 2 pickups per week of 2-3 cans: $35/month (this is an increase from the current pricing)
- 1 pickup per week of 2 cans: $28/month
- 1 pickup per week of 1 can: $24/month
Road Resurfacing - As we approach Spring, plans are underway for the annual roadway resurfacing projects. Each year, the Village Engineer rates all streets based on multiple criteria - surface condition, base condition, drainage and curbs - and appropriate recommendations are made to the Board of Trustees for funding. This calendar year, the following streets are expected to be resurfaced: Thornden, Rynda, Kingsland Ct, Kingsland Terr, South Ridgewood, Blanchard, Crest Circle and Turrell. Projects should go out to bid later this Spring and work should get underway by this Summer.

Community Garden - Registration for the fourth season of the South Orange Community Garden is now underway and a few plots in the community garden still remain. Garden Season Permits are issued at the Baird Center for South Orange residents for a fee of $70. The 2013 Garden season will be March 23rd - October 29th. Operating hours will be every day from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., or dawn to dusk, whichever is more restrictive. You can learn more at http://www.southorange.org/communitygarden/
