Back in January 2007, the Board of Trustees decided whom to replace resigning trustee Eric DeVaris with; they chose me. I had a weekend to decide to say yes, and figure out what to accomplish with four months left in the term. I called upon a dozen or so thought leaders in our Village, and one of the first was Sheena Collum. We sat in Starbucks and as I listened, I wrote my objectives on a paper napkin. She may have still been a grad student at SHU, but that’s how much she impressed me. I still feel the same way. Do we always agree? Of course not, in fact, Sheena backed a different slate than mine that spring, because she thought it was a better fit for the Village’s future. Regardless, we’ve been personal friends and professional colleagues since then. She has the brains, talent, energy and background to do a great job as trustee. She will be responsive, inquisitive and independent. She will definitely do her homework.

Likewise, I have known Walter Clarke for years. He is the Environmental Commission chair, and he has pulled off numerous initiatives that have benefitted the Village, saved us money, and won us awards. As the former chair of this same committee, I have been impressed with his patience, organization, problem-solving capability and knowledge.

Although I have only recently met their running mate, Steve Schnall, I share his desire to get things done, and to cut through the red tape and inertia that detracts from the best local government service has to offer. This ticket brings a lot of talent and positive energy to the table. For that reason, I strongly endorse Sheena Collum, Walter Clarke and Steve Schnall for Village trustee.
