Social Work - The Profession of Hope

National Social Work Month, a time to salute social workers who help people get on the right path in life.

March is National Professional Social Work Month, a time to recognize the role Social Workers play in helping millions of people function better in their daily lives while overcoming life's tragedies and obstacles.  In the United States, there are more than 650,000 social workers.  These are highly trained professionals helping people get on the right path in life and realize their full potential.  Social workers act as a lifeline during all kinds of crisis - from family bereavement to natural disasters like the recent Hurricane Sandy providing supportive counseling and access to resources and new life options.  FAMILYConnections' staff who serve in this role include Social Workers, other licensed mental health and addiction counselors, outreach workers and support staff, all working every day to improve the lives of our consumers.  This includes helping families reunite safely following separation due to child abuse or neglect, and guiding women and children through their recovery from domestic violence.  This also includes helping seniors get the services they need to stay healthy and independent and teaching teens how to cope positively with the challenges of growing up.  On the occasion of National Social Work Month, let's salute not only FAMILYConnections staff, but all Essex County social service workers who dedicate themselves to strengthening those in need - making our communities safer and healthier for all. FAMILYConnections' Mission is to engender hope, enhance safety, heal trauma and strengthen families and communities.  For more information or to access services, please call 973-675-3817 or visit www.familyconnectionsnj.org.
