The SOM Adult School Children's Summer Program

Registrations are now being accepted for the 2013 South Orange-Maplewood Adult School Children's Summer Program

Registration has begun for the 2013 South Orange-Maplewood Adult School Children's Summer Program and it promises to be a fantastic four weeks.  This year's camp will run from July 1-26 and will be held in the South Orange Middle School. In addition to old favorites including Wizard Camp, Soapmaking, Puppetmaking, Knitting, Pottery, Mosaics, Advertising & Graphic Design, Yoga, and Karate, we have many new offerings this summer that are sure to fill up quickly.

Chris Marbaix of Robot Revolution will be teaching a Robotics class for us from 9-12 each morning in which campers will design, build, and program a Lego Mindstorms robot.  Now that Columbia High School has a much acclaimed Robotics Team (who are heading to the Robotics World Championships for the second time in April), it is a perfect time for your 4th-7th grader to explore robotics in more detail.

And we’re delighted to be offering photography again. Joy Yagid’s photography class will allow 6th-9th grade campers to experiment with photography and Debra Trebitz’s Pinhole Photography will give 1st-6th graders the opportunity to transform a box into a camera while using both science and art to create photo images.

If your child is interested in sports we have a wide variety of wonderful sports programs including baseball, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, gymnastics, track and field, and fencing.  And for theater buffs we have a full day musical theater program that culminates with a full scale production at the end of each session.

You can make your child’s day as long or short as you like (we offer before and after care) and you can custom design a schedule to suit their particular interests and curiosities. Our classes are taught by skilled, creative teachers and our teen counselors (Yellow Shirts) are incredibly professional and mature and always quite popular with our campers.
