HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS HAVE UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES FOR

COLLEGE PREP AT SETON HALL UNIVERSITY

PRE-COLLEGE SUMMER SESSIONS JULY 8 - AUGUST 9, 2013

CREDIT AND NON-CREDIT COURSES TAUGHT BY RENOWNED FACULTY ENABLE STUDENTS TO EXPAND HORIZONS WITH TOP SUMMER EXPERIENCE

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ  — Seton Hall University (www.shu.edu), one of the country’s leading Catholic universities, has announced a special summer session series of course offerings for high school students.  Credit and non-credit courses, camps, and institutes provide an opportunity for students to gain college credit, enhance their college applications, and sharpen their academic skills.

“My career in higher education has taught me that our real goal is to help young people develop a life-long love of learning,” notes Dr. Nancy Low-Hogan, Dean of Continuing Education and Professional Studies. “Seton Hall’s Summer Sessions are designed to give high school students opportunities to explore academics and discover what ignites their imagination.”

In addition to “learning what they love,” students can get a head start on their college education by taking courses that lighten their academic load during their freshman year or improve their writing skills in preparation for the SATs, college application essays, and college-level coursework.

“Learn What You Love” Pre-College Summer Sessions run from July 8 to August 9*.  Credit-bearing college courses include: Principles of Economics, Intermediate Algebra, Oral Communications, United States Politics, Intro to Psychology, Intro to Social Work, and more.  Students also can enroll in non-credit summer camps and institutes such as Video Game Programming, Criminal Justice Careers, Get into College with Great Writing, Writing for College Success, Fiction Writing, and more.

To encourage high school students to explore topics of interest and to try multiple courses, the University is offering its Pre-College Summer Sessions credit-bearing courses at 50% off regular tuition rates.  Students who enroll in more than one non-credit course receive a $50 discount per course.

For further information or to learn more about the course offerings, visit http://www7.shu.edu/summer-session/pre-college.cfm, call (973) 761-9087, or e-mail CEPS@shu.edu

*Most, but not all, courses begin and end on these dates. Please visit the website for course details.

ABOUT SETON HALL UNIVERSITY

One of the country’s leading Catholic universities, Seton Hall University has been a catalyst for leadership — developing students in mind, heart and spirit — since 1856.

With more than 60 rigorous academic programs, and schools singled out for distinction by The Princeton Review, US News & World Report and Bloomberg Businessweek, Seton Hall exemplifies academic excellence.  A student-to-faculty ratio of 14:1 and an average class size of 20 provide a truly supportive educational environment; students enjoy hands-on guidance from a world-class faculty that includes Fulbright scholars, leading researchers, industry leaders, and former ambassadors. Dozens of Seton Hall students have been chosen for highly selective national and international awards in recent years, including Rhodes, Fulbright, Pickering, and Udall scholarships.

Seton Hall offers superior opportunities for career development before and after graduation. More than 75 percent of students participate in an internship, practicum or clinical program to gain professional experience; the university also boasts a career-related job placement rate 10 to 15 percent above the national average and an international alumni network more than 70,000 strong.

The university combines the resources of a large university with the personal attention of a small liberal arts college. Its attractive suburban campus is only 14 miles by train, bus or car to New York City, with the wealth of employment, internship, cultural and entertainment opportunities the city offers.
