Emergency Route Established for South Orange Jitney

Weather routes go in effect when a snowstorm hits.

With South Orange due for a snowstorm any day now, the has set up a safeguard in case its commuter jitney has problems getting around on the snow covered roads.

A weather emergency route for South Orange jitney service has been established on the Newstead and North Wyoming route to allow those residents to still be able to travel during a snowstorm.

When severe snow, ice or other weather conditions create potential driving hazards, three hilly parts of the route become inaccessible to the jitneys:  Longview beyond Crestwood Drive, Overhill Road, and Franklin Place or Franklin Terrace.

In weather emergencies, riders at those locations are advised to shift to another section of the route.

No emergency plans are needed for the Montrose/Tuxedo Park or Irvington/Academy/Valley routes since they do not include steep hills.
