N.J. Teen Charged With Murdering East Orange Cab Driver

Police have arrested a 16-year-old Essex County teen in connection with the fatal shooting of a livery cab driver in Orange, authorities say

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Police have arrested a 16-year-old Essex County teen in connection with the fatal shooting of a livery cab driver in Orange last week, authorities say.

Police arrested the juvenile on Saturday and charged him with murdering of Jonas Larose, 55, of East Orange, during a Nov. 30 shooting on the 200 block of Snyder Street in Orange, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Orange Police Department stated in a joint news release.

Authorities charged the teen with Murder, Felony Murder, Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose and Forgery, and transported him to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center.

Prosecutors previously stated that Orange police officers arrived on Snyder Street around 11 p.m. on a report of a car crash. When police arrived on the scene, they discovered that the crashed cab’s driver, Jonas Larose, 55, of East Orange, was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office stated.

Authorities pronounced Larose dead at 11:36 p.m., prosecutors said.
