South Orange's Kevin Spacey Speaks; Alleged Sex Assault On Teen
Actor Anthony Rapp accused South Orange native and fellow actor Kevin Spacey of sexually assaulting him when he was 14.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Academy Award-winning actor and New Jersey native Kevin Spacey said that he doesn’t remember sexually assaulting fellow actor Anthony Rapp when he was 14-years-old. But if the accusations are true, Spacey “owes him the sincerest apology” for his “deeply inappropriate, drunken behavior.”
That’s what the South Orange native wrote on Twitter in a deeply personal post on Sunday, during which the well-known actor discussed his past relationships with both men and women, and his choice to now identify as a gay man.
Rapp had made the accusation earlier Sunday in an interview with Buzzfeed.

"I honestly do not remember the encounter," Spacey said in a statement on Twitter. "If I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior… I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years."
Rapp said that in 1986 he was 14 years old and he was acting in a Broadway production with Ed Harris and Judith Ivey when he accepted an invitation from Spacey to come by his apartment.

"He picked me up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold," Rapp told BuzzFeed. "But I don't, like, squirm away initially, because I'm like, 'What's going on?' And then he lays down on top of me. I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually.

Spacey said that "the story has encouraged me to address other things about my life."
"I know that there are stories out there about me and that some have been fueled by the fact that I have been so protective of my privacy," he said in the statement.
Spacey said that "as those closest to me know, in my life, I have had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man.
"I want to deal with this honestly and openly and that starts with examining my own behavior,” he said.
