PSEG Completes Gas Main Construction In South Orange

Restoration of the roads with permanent pavement will take place in spring 2018, South Orange officials said.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — PSE&G has finished a major gas main construction effort in South Orange, but the permanent restoration of the affected roads may not take place until this spring, town officials say.

According to South Orange municipal officials, PSE&G began the work in September as part of the utility’s Gas System Modernization Program. As part of the infrastructure program, crews repaired the gas main on South Orange Avenue by Seton Hall University, and they replaced the mains and services on Turrell Avenue and South Centre Street.

“The aging pipes were replaced with strong, durable plastic which is much less likely to have leaks and release methane gas,” South Orange officials stated. “The new elevated pressure systems also enable the installation of excess flow valves that dramatically reduce gas flow if a service line is damaged, and provide better support for the use of high-efficiency appliances.”
