Scenes from Midnight Madness

Graduating seniors went to Funplex in East Hanover overnight on Tuesday.

After graduation on Tuesday, almost 400 CHS seniors regrouped at the school at 10 p.m. for Midnight Madness, the annual drug- and alcohol-free post-graduation party at a secret location, organized by parents.

Students were bused to this year’s destination—Funplex on Route 10 in East Hanover, which has arcade games and pool tables, though the organizers also brought a hypnotist, caricaturist, fortune teller and a photo center.

“There’s a lot of anticipation because it’s a secret for our kids,” said co-organizer Carrie Steinbauer, who added that parent volunteers, generous donations and fundraisers like flocking made the event possible.

Students returned to the school at 5:30 a.m., and while Midnight Madness came on the tails of graduation and prom just the night before, there must have been an adrenaline rush that kept the newly-minted graduates going.

"I had a Red Bull beforehand," said outgoing Student Council President Cory Epstein. "Even though it was after prom, I had gotten a lot of sleep that day—I slept into the afternoon."
